The weekend long American Beatbox Championships has garnered a reputation as a gem amongst New York City’s summer musical landscape. Co-headlined by America’s Got Talent top finalist Butterscotch, who captured the hearts of American audiences by mixing her soulful voice with stunning beatbox, piano, and guitar. Butterscotch became the first female to win a World Beatbox Championships.
Butterscotch has performed with music legends Earth, Wind & Fire, Chick Corea, Lenny White, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Patti Austin, Wah Wah Watson, Howard McCrary, Patrice Rushen, Mike Patton, Dan the Automator, Kid Koala, Kenny Muhammad, Tommy Davidson and has shared the stage with Stevie Wonder, Talib Kweli, Wyclef Jean, Will.I.Am, Raphael Saadiq, Sheila E and Rahzel. She is featured on albums by SMV (Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten) and on George Benson’s latest project “Song’s & Stories”.
Co-Headlining is chart topping Grammy Award winning soul singer Maya Azucena who emerged as a captivating presence on the landscape of popular music following her self-released debut Maya Who?! and the critically acclaimed Junkyard Jewel. Billboard, The Village Voice and The Washington Post have all heralded her mesmerizing performances in the U.S. while her music’s been featured on HBO (The Wire), NBC (30 Rock), and in advertisements for Verizon Wireless and Ford Motors. Her work with Stephen Marley netted a “Best Reggae Album” Grammy and her vocal contributions to an album by Croatian superstar Gibonni garnered two Porin Awards (the top music award in Croatia). As both an in-demand concert attraction and a Cultural Ambassador for the U.S., she’s enthralled audiences in places as far-ranging as Honduras, China, Tanzania, Italy, Myanmar, and Slovenia.
The Grand Final event also features special guest judge Rahzel of the Roots, Steven Foxx, and Pete List. Hosted by Viper Records’ Hasan Salaam alongside Colin Dean’s Roots and Grooves with DJ Chela.
